Otumfuo not responsible for investing in Asante Kotoko – Former Club Chairman

-

Former Asante Kotoko chairman, Herbert Mensah, has stated that it is not the responsibility of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the life patron of the club, to financially support the team.

His comments came after the club’s playing body, Interim Management Committee (IMC), and technical team presented the 2024/25 FA Cup trophy to the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday.

Speaking on behalf of Otumfuo, Mr. Mensah—currently serving as President of Rugby Africa—emphasised the need for those in charge of the club to take full responsibility.

“You must get back up, be at the World Club Championship, and bring the glory back,” he said. “Otumfuo has invested; it is not Otumfuo’s job to invest in Kotoko.

“It is Kotoko that you achieve, and those who hold it must invest. It is an honour, it is a privilege to hold Kumasi Asante Kotoko,” he added.

Herbert Mensah, who led the club from 1999 to 2003, is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the club’s recent history.

Asante Kotoko, following their FA Cup victory, will represent Ghana in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.
