The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has revealed that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is expected to name his squad for the upcoming Unity Cup next week.
The senior national team will participate in a four-nation tournament in the United Kingdom later this month, with Ghana set to face long-time West African rivals Nigeria in the semifinal.
The highly anticipated clash is scheduled for May 28 at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium, with kick-off at 19:00 GMT.
The winner of that encounter will advance to the final on May 31, where they will take on either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago. The final is slated for a 12:30 GMT kick-off.
Speaking in an interview with Akoma FM, Asante Twum confirmed that squad preparations are underway and fans can expect a few new faces in the team.
“I know the technical team is considering how to approach this Cup; there will be some fresh additions while keeping the core of the team,” he said.
He added that local-based players selected for the squad will travel with the domestic contingent directly to London for preparations.
“Possibly by next week, the coach will announce his team, and if we have local players, they will join the local contingent and move directly to London to begin preparations,” he added.
Local media reports suggest that Asante Kotoko duo Andrews Ntim Manu and Kwame Opoku are likely to be included in the squad.
They could join Kamaradini Mamudu, Razak Simpson, and Ghana’s current first-choice goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, in representing the country at the tournament.
