The Chairperson of Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee, Hon. Ernest Norgbey, has backed the decision of the Ghana Football Association to part ways with Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars.

The 50-year-old was dismissed following back-to-back defeats in international friendlies against Austria and Germany.

Speaking to Citi Sports after the decision, Mr Norgbey said the move was long overdue, citing the team’s declining performances and growing tactical concerns.

“It is the right time for him to be sacked,” he said.

“I don’t know the kind of hope the GFA had in him, looking at the performance of the team,” he added.

Although the Ashaiman MP acknowledged Otto Addo’s role in Ghana’s World Cup qualification, he stressed that the achievement was not enough to mask what he described as a steady regression in the team’s performance and structure.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup fast approaching, Norgbey noted that the next coaching appointment will be critical to Ghana’s chances, as attention shifts to rebuilding confidence within the squad and restoring belief among supporters.

Ghana is scheduled to face Mexico and Wales in May and June in their final preparatory matches before the tournament kicks off on June 11, where the Black Stars will compete in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
