Former Black Stars coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has expressed confidence in the capabilities of the senior national team’s technical staff ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

In preparation for the tournament, which will take place this summer across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the Black Stars’ technical team has been strengthened. French tactician Alain Ravera and Black Queens coach Kim Lars Björkegren have joined as assistant coaches, while Jose Daniel Martinez Alfonso from Atalanta FC assumes the role of Performance Analyst.

Returning from Ghana’s 2022 World Cup squad in Qatar, Carlos Lozano Romero will serve as Physiotherapist, and Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi takes on the role of Performance Coach.

Akonnor, who led the Black Stars from January 2020 to September 2021 and currently coaches Kenyan side Gor Mahia, emphasized the importance of supporting head coach Otto Addo.

“To me, the coach [Otto Addo] must be given space to do his work. The major thing is for the technical team to have peace of mind to work,” he told the Daily Graphic.

He added: “What is important is that the technical team has been strengthened; these are very capable men.”

The Black Stars are currently in Vienna to prepare for a friendly against Austria on Friday, March 27, at the Ernst Happel Stadium, before travelling to Stuttgart, Germany, for a second friendly on Monday, March 30.
