The Oti Regional Police Commander, Alex Acquah, has visited Nkwanta in the Nkwanta South Municipality to engage with residents and security personnel following recent violent disturbances.
The visit on March 26 is part of the Ghana Police Service’s efforts to restore calm, strengthen security presence, and reassure communities affected by attacks that left several people dead and property destroyed.
DCOP Acquah began by meeting police officers stationed in the area, urging them to remain vigilant and professional in carrying out their duties. He later led a joint security delegation—including personnel from the Police Service, Military, Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), and Defence Intelligence—to the Zongo community, where they met with the Zongo Chief, Alhaji Issaka Kayaba, and community elders.
During the engagement, the Regional Commander conveyed condolences from the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Management Board to families affected by the violence, noting the recent deaths of three adult male community members.
In response, Alhaji Kayaba assured the delegation that residents are committed to peace and unity, promising that there would be no retaliation. “The community affirms its commitment to peace, non-retaliation, and coexistence,” the Police Command reported.
DCOP Acquah also visited Dadaga to inspect the site of a previous arson attack that claimed two lives, using the visit to assess the situation firsthand and guide ongoing security interventions.
The Police Command said it will continue to closely monitor developments in the area while collaborating with other security agencies to maintain stability.

Residents have been advised to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel. Authorities have also cautioned against the spread of misinformation, warning it could inflame tensions.
“The Command urges residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with the security agencies,” a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor said.
It further called on the public to exercise restraint and avoid any actions that could escalate the situation.
