The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has clarified that investigations into Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) began before the submission of any petition by freelance investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awini.

The claim was made by Sammy Darko, Director of Research, Communications and Strategy at the OSP, during an appearance on Newsfile on Saturday, December 6.

Mr Darko emphasised that the probe into SML’s operations in the upstream petroleum and gold sectors is independent of external petitions.

“It is important to note that our investigations into SML were already underway before any petition from Mr Azure Awini reached our offices,” he stated.

He further stressed that the OSP follows due process in all its investigations, adhering strictly to legal and procedural standards.

“Our work is guided by law, not by external pressure or petitions. Allegations are examined on merit, and investigations proceed based on evidence, not influence,” Mr Darko said.

The SRC Director also called on the public and media to avoid conflating investigative timelines with external claims.

He urged stakeholders to allow the OSP to complete its work without speculation or interference.

Mr Darko reaffirmed the OSP’s commitment to transparency and accountability in all high-profile investigations.

“We remain focused on ensuring that justice and due process guide our inquiries, and we will continue to report responsibly as our work progresses,” he said.
