OSP resumes trial of former PPA boss

-

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has resumed the trial of former Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Chief Executive, Adjenim Boateng Adjei, who is accused of violating procurement procedures during his tenure.

Mr. Adjei, dismissed from office in 2020 following a corruption exposé, is facing multiple charges, including eight counts of using public office for profit and nine counts of influencing procurement processes for personal gain.

The case, which has been before the courts for nearly two years, continues to draw public attention due to its implications for transparency and accountability in public sector governance.

According to the OSP, investigations revealed that Mr. Adjei allegedly exploited his position to advance private business interests, actions said to be in breach of the Public Procurement Act.

Prosecutors are seeking to establish evidence of corruption and conflict of interest in the ongoing proceedings.

In a related matter, the OSP disclosed that Mr. Adjei’s brother-in-law, Francis Kwaku Arhin, has also been charged with one count of using public office for profit.

Earlier this year, the case took a new turn after prosecutors filed additional charges, expanding the investigation. The OSP noted that around 2022, Mr. Adjei reportedly withdrew funds from previously frozen bank accounts, prompting further scrutiny of assets linked to the case.

The Special Prosecutor has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring a thorough and fair trial as proceedings continue before the court.
