The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has carried out a court-authorised operation targeting five fuel depots and their affiliated Bulk Distribution Company (BDC) facilities, marking a major step in addressing suspected irregularities in Ghana’s petroleum import sector.
According to the OSP, the operation forms part of an ongoing investigation into alleged under-declaration of petroleum imports, deliberate misclassification of fuel products during depot transfers, and potential large-scale tax evasion.
Preliminary findings suggest that some BDCs may have collaborated with officials from key state institutions—including the National Petroleum Authority, Ghana Revenue Authority, and the National Security Secretariat—to facilitate unlawful financial dealings. Investigators also suspect that intermediaries may have been involved in diverting funds outside approved systems.
The companies under investigation include Platon Oil and Gas Ltd, Sentuo Oil, Akwaaba Oil, Sahara Oil and Gas Ltd, and Chase Petroleum Ghana Ltd. During the raids, officials reportedly retrieved key documents and electronic data, and several individuals identified as “persons of interest” were taken in for questioning.

The OSP emphasised that the probe is still ongoing, adding that further updates will be provided as analysis of the evidence progresses.
