The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tamekloe, has called for the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to be allowed to complete the remaining two years of its mandate.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, he insisted that the Office of the Special Prosecutor should not be scrapped, emphasizing that the institution has solid legal grounding and enjoys bipartisan support.
“The OSP has come to stay. I am against the scrapping of the office. What is the legal basis to scrap it? It has gone through all the necessary processes and has bipartisan support. There has to be a strong reason for a repeal,” he said.
Commenting on calls for the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, Mr. Tamekloe stressed that the current officeholder should be allowed to complete his seven-year non-renewable term, of which he has two years left.
“He has done five years, with two remaining. Two years is not far, so he should be allowed to finish it,” he added.
Tamekloe also noted that since the President has forwarded the petition seeking Agyebeng’s removal to the Chief Justice, the public must await the outcome.
“I cannot respond to whether or not Kissi Agyebeng should be sacked. The President has forwarded the petition to the Chief Justice, so let’s wait for his response,” he said.
