The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has declared Ernest Darko Akore, a former Chef de Cabinet (Technical Advisor) at the Ministry of Finance, wanted for his alleged involvement in corruption-related offences.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the OSP said Mr. Akore is wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation into the controversial Revenue Assurance Contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).
The OSP described Mr. Akore, aged 67, as possibly a dual Ghanaian-American national, noting that he previously held an American passport.
According to the notice, Mr. Akore is believed to be hiding in either the United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, or South Africa.
An arrest warrant has been issued by the High Court’s Criminal Division under the case title Republic v. Ernest D. Akore.
The OSP is urging the public to assist in locating him by providing credible information or tips via its dedicated WhatsApp hotlines: 0554494499 and 0554484488.
This development follows an investigative report published in April by The Fourth Estate, a journalism project of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), which uncovered several irregularities in contracts involving SML, the Ministry of Finance, and the GRA.
The report raised concerns about discrepancies in SML’s claims regarding its services to combat revenue leakages in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
Mr. Akore now joins a growing list of individuals under investigation in connection with the deal, including former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
