Venerated music producer and politician Mark Okraku-Mantey has revealed that despite Daddy Lumba’s immense public fame, very few people truly knew the Highlife legend on a personal level.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Okraku-Mantey described the late musician as a deeply private and introverted individual, whose real character was only known to his immediate family.
“Anyone who claims to know Daddy Lumba closely is lying. Only his wife and kids truly understood him,” he stated.
“He had a love-me-or-hate-me personality. He wasn’t out there; all his focus was on music,” he added.
Okraku-Mantey praised Lumba’s artistic brilliance, describing him as a meticulous and thoughtful creator who conducted extensive research before releasing any song.
“He speaks volumes through his music—what he doesn’t say publicly, he sings,” he said.
The touching tribute comes as the nation mourns the death of the Highlife icon, who passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a short illness. He was 60.
