Nana Dr. Okra Baadu, the Gyaasehene of Obo-Kwahu, has clarified the leadership dispute in Kwahu, insisting that Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II is the rightful president of the Kwahu Traditional Council.
He described claims against the former chief as false and said all parties involved had been served with the relevant court documents.
“The lies they spread against Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II have no basis. The Eastern Regional House of Chiefs’ judicial committee delivered a judgment in his favor. Anyone who claims to have enstooled another chief should not interfere with his position” Nana Dr. Okra Baadu said in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem.
Asked about the timing of the judgment, he confirmed: “I have personally served all parties involved. They are aware and have received the writs.”
He further explained that Baffour Osei Akoto, the current chief serving under the stool name Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, who has been styling himself as Kwahuhene, had attempted to assert himself as President at the Kwahu Traditional Council, but both the Regional House of Chiefs and the Chieftaincy Ministry and Local Government warned that only one chief is officially recognized.
“He is the rightful president of the Kwahu Traditional Council to this day. He also serves as the Vice President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and represents the region at the National House of Chiefs. All records are available at the Chieftaincy Ministry,” he added.
This clarification comes amid nationwide concern over reports that the Queen Mother of Kwahu, Nana Adwoa Gyamfua III, had been forcibly taken from her residence at Abene.
The Paramount Chief of Kwahu, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, previously told Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem that heavily armed police officers stormed the palace around 4:30 a.m. on Monday, November 17, firing shots “indiscriminately” before removing the Queen Mother.
However, the Kwahu Traditional Council has strongly denied claims of abduction, calling them “entirely false.” In a statement, the Council explained that the police were enforcing a court order.
According to the Council, officers were acting on an interlocutory injunction issued by the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs on June 24, 2024.
The injunction, granted in favor of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, “restrains Baffour Osei Akoto, who has been styling himself as Kwahuhene, together with the Queen Mother and others, from interfering with Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II’s occupation and duties at the Abene Palace.”
Nana Dr. Okra Baadu concluded: “This is a matter of law and order. Any confusion about the Queen Mother’s presence was due to the enforcement of a legitimate court order, not an abduction. The law is clear, and Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II remains the recognized chief.”
