A one-week-old baby has allegedly been stolen from the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital in the Asante Akyem North Municipality on Friday morning around 10 a.m., sparking panic and concern among residents.
Information gathered by Adom News suggests the baby’s mother, Felicia Obenewaa, had taken her infant to the hospital for a postnatal review when the incident occurred. While at the facility, she reportedly met an unknown young woman who engaged her in conversation and offered to assist her.
Mrs. Obenewaa is said to have briefly left her baby in the care of the woman to use the washroom. Upon her return, the stranger had vanished along with her newborn.
Hospital authorities have since confirmed that their CCTV cameras captured the suspect leaving the premises with the baby.
The footage has been handed over to the police, who have launched a manhunt for the woman believed to be behind the abduction.
The Asante Akyem North Municipal Police Commander, ACP John Danquah, told Adom News that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that efforts are being intensified to locate both the suspect and the missing child.
Meanwhile, the distraught mother, who is said to be in a state of emotional distress, is receiving support and counseling at the hospital.
Police have appealed to the public to provide any information that could lead to the rescue of the baby and the arrest of the suspect.
