A member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) taskforce has died, and four others have sustained serious injuries, after their operational vehicle was involved in an accident at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources said the five-member team was travelling to the area to execute a major anti-galamsey operation when the crash occurred.
In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Media Relations Officer, officials noted that the deployment formed part of sustained efforts to curb illegal mining activities in the Obuasi enclave.
The Ministry confirmed that one officer died at the scene, while the other four members of the team are receiving medical attention for severe injuries.
