The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery that claimed the life of a 42-year-old miner at Asonkore SSNIT Flats Down in Obuasi.
According to the police, the attackers escaped with GH¢2,600, a laptop, and a car key belonging to the victim.
The suspect, identified as Rahman Adams, also known as Wale, is currently in custody, while two other accomplices, including a Nigerian national, remain at large.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the police said Adams was apprehended on January 18, 2026, at Pomposo following an intelligence-led operation, more than a month after the robbery, which occurred on December 12, 2025.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects gained access to the victim’s home by cutting through a burglar-proof window before attacking him. Responding officers later found the miner’s body inside the room.
“Police responded and found the body of a 42-year-old miner inside the house,” the statement said, noting that the victim appeared to have been assaulted during the robbery and died at the scene.
The police identified the two remaining suspects as A.T. and a Nigerian national, both of whom are believed to have participated in the robbery and murder.
Investigators also retrieved hammers, machetes, and cutters from the scene, suspected to have been used to break into the house and carry out the attack.
The victim’s body has been deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Rahman Adams remains in custody assisting with investigations, while police continue efforts to track down the remaining suspects. Authorities have appealed to the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the fugitives.
