Omane Boamah’s short tenure as Minister was marked by transformative leadership – Chief of Defence Staff

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) has paid glowing tribute to the late Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and three Ghana Armed Forces personnel who died in the August 6 Sikaman helicopter crash.

In a solemn eulogy, the CDS described Dr. Boamah’s short tenure as Defence Minister as one marked by “transformative leadership, innovation, and unwavering commitment to excellence.”

He credited the late minister with championing merit-based recruitment, retooling the Armed Forces, revitalising the Defence Industries Holding Company, and prioritising troop welfare, including mental health care for service members and veterans.

The tribute also honoured Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah for their skill, dedication, and professionalism.

The CDS lauded their contributions to aviation safety, operational readiness, and the mentoring of younger personnel, noting that their legacy would continue to shape Ghana’s military doctrine.

“As the bugle sounds and the night holds its silence, we salute them… brave men who served with pride and fell with honour,” the CDS said.

“May their souls rest in perfect peace.”
