Omane Boamah’s hometown Kwahu Obomeng thrown into mourning [Video]

Residents of Kwahu Obomeng in the Eastern Region have been left heartbroken and in shock following the sudden death of their native, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

A street in the town is named in his honour — Dr. Edward Omane Boamah Road — a testament to the pride the community felt for one of its most distinguished sons.

News of his passing has cast a shadow of grief across the town, with many describing him not only as a prominent statesman but also as a son of the land who never lost touch with his roots.

In an interview with Adom News’ Akwasi Dwamena, some residents expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident.

“When we heard that our father, Omane Boamah, had passed away, in fact, everybody was sad. It came to us as a shock because if we look at how he conducts himself and does his things, the residents of Obomeng have lost a great person,” one resident said.

Locals remembered him as approachable, humble, and committed to community development. They noted that he frequently returned to Obomeng to meet directly with residents, listen to their concerns, and share in their hopes.

“When he comes to the community, we meet with him one-on-one and chat with him,” another resident said. “So we were hopeful that whatever happens, he could help the Obomeng township.”

His close engagement with the youth stood out most. Many said the pain of his loss was even more intense because of the hope he gave them for future opportunities.

“He was someone who worked with the youth, so when we heard that he had passed away this afternoon, before God and man, we were very sad. Obomeng township has really lost a great person.”

An elderly woman also described Dr. Omane Boamah as a man who treated both the young and old with generosity and respect.

“Obomeng residents were thrilled because of how generous Dr. Omane Boamah was and how he conducted himself. The youth of this town would have gotten jobs because of him, but sadly, he’s gone,” she lamented.

“When he comes to the community, he’s free with everyone, especially the elderly. After the elections, we heard he would come and create employment for the youth of this town, but sadly, we didn’t hear good news.”

“It’s very sad. The whole community is silent because a great man has fallen. We are very sad,” she added.
