OLA Girls SHS wins Energy Commission Renewable Challenge in Ahafo region

Ola Girls’ Senior High School (SHS) in Kenyasi has emerged as the winner of the Ahafo Region edition of the 2025 Energy Commission’s Renewable Challenge.

The Ola Girls’ team outperformed several schools, including Serwaa Kesse Girls, Bechem Presby, Ahafoman, Mim, Acherensua, Yamfo Technical Institute, Bechem Technical Institute, Gyedu Technical Institute, and Boakye Tromo.

The highly competitive event was held in Bechem.

Queen Alexis Adu Serwaa Arthur, the lead facilitator for Ola Girls, told Adom News that the challenge has had a significant impact on students, schools, communities, and the nation as a whole.

She highlighted that the competition has empowered students to develop innovative solutions to environmental problems using affordable local materials. One of the key focuses has been on restoring lands degraded by illegal mining activities.

Julius Nkansah Nyarko, Senior Manager for Renewable Energy Regulations at the Energy Commission, expressed his admiration for the quality of the entries from the 10 participating schools.

He described the students’ creative approaches to environmental challenges as both impressive and inspiring, adding that the commission plans to harness and refine these ideas to effectively address environmental issues.
