The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, says the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protesters have failed to provide any evidence to back their claims of brutality.

The protest took place from September 21 to 23, 2023. The protesters, who were demonstrating against the government’s economic policies and alleged corruption, had over 50 of their members arrested by the police.

The incident sparked outrage from Ghanaians, who accused the police of using excessive force against unarmed civilians.

The IGP subsequently met with some leaders of the Democracy Hub group, organizers of the protest, on September 22, 2023, to address concerns regarding the nature of their planned demonstration at the Jubilee House.

The police said it was established at the meeting that there was no evidence or reported case of assault against the demonstrators.

In a meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union in Accra on Tuesday, the IGP said, “As I speak, after months of completing that demonstration till today not a shred of evidence has been brought up to indicate that police brutalized them.”
