Tears, fear, and a desperate plea for help filled the studios of Nhyira FM’s Obra Show, simulcast on Adom TV, as a worried mother alleged that a group of young men attempted to kill her son simply because he refused to join them.
Appearing on the show, Joyce Ayi recounted what she described as a terrifying ordeal that has left her family living in fear. “His only crime was saying no,” she said.
According to Joyce, the trouble began when a group of individuals invited her son to join them to smoke wee.
“They called him to come and smoke with them, but he said no,” Joyce told the panel, her voice shaking. “From that day, he has not had peace.”
She alleged that the situation escalated into a violent attack, during which her son sustained serious injuries.
“They tried to kill him,” she claimed. “He survived, but he was badly hurt.”
The studio fell silent as Joyce further alleged that the same group continues to threaten her son’s life.
“They said they will kill him,” she stated. “And if they don’t succeed, they will harm him in a way he will never forget for the rest of his life.”
According to her, her son now lives in constant fear, unable to move freely within the community.
Host Ohemaa Benewa described the allegations as deeply troubling.
“So a young man cannot choose a different path without being hunted?” she asked.
Panelists Lady Gold, Evangelist de-Graft Addai, and Gifty Donkor (Big Mama) condemned the alleged incident.
Lady Gold criticised what she described as dangerous peer pressure among some youth. “Refusing to smoke should not be a death sentence,” she said firmly. “If this is true, then we are raising a generation that punishes discipline.”
Evangelist de-Graft Addai called for immediate intervention. “This is not just a family issue. It is a community and security matter. When threats like this are made openly, they must be taken seriously,” he emphasised.
Meanwhile, Big Mama (Gifty Donkor) expressed concern about the emotional toll on the young man. “Living under constant threat can destroy a person psychologically. The authorities must act before this escalates,” she warned.
Phone lines lit up with reactions from listeners.
One caller stated: “If someone refuses to join you, you move on. Why threaten his life?”
Another listener urged swift police action: “These are criminal threats. The family must report immediately.”
Through tears, Joyce Ayi made a heartfelt appeal: “I don’t want to bury my son. I am begging for help before it is too late.”
As the show wrapped up, Ohemaa Benewa delivered a sober conclusion: “Choosing not to engage in wrongdoing should never put a life in danger. If these allegations are true, then this is no longer just about peer pressure — it is about criminal intimidation.”
She urged the family to seek immediate protection from the police and called on authorities to thoroughly investigate the claims.
