The National Timber Monitoring Team (NTMT) has intensified efforts to address illegalities in Ghana’s timber and forestry sector.

The Director of NTMT, Alhaji Mohammed Kwaku Doku, speaking in an interview with Adom News at Bediako in the Ahafo Region, explained that many individuals in the timber business have over the years failed to adhere to national laws, significantly affecting the country.

He said NTMT has decided to engage all stakeholders in the timber industry to sensitize them on the legal requirements of operating in the sector, ensuring they comply with regulations.

“Engaging industry players will go a long way to sanitize the system, which is currently full of illegalities and affecting the country,” he noted.

The Chief of Bediako, Nana Kofi Kusi II, commended the initiative, thanking NTMT for its efforts to curb illegal activities in the timber sector.

He highlighted that many people in the area are involved in timber and sawmill operations, stressing the importance of adhering to NTMT directives to safeguard livelihoods and the industry.

The chief urged NTMT to ensure that all individuals in the timber business comply fully with the country’s regulations.
