NSMQ 2025: Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS stages late comeback to book national spot

Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior High School has pulled off a stunning comeback to win their contest in the Ashanti Regional qualifiers of the 2025 NSMQ, securing a place at the national championship.

In a contest filled with tension and shifting leads, it was Juaben SHS who dominated the early rounds. They led with 21 points at the end of Round One, while Yaa Asantewaa trailed behind with 12 points, tied with Islamic SHS.

In Round Two, Juaben stayed ahead with 20 points, followed by Yaa Asantewaa and Fomena T.I. AMASS both at 15 points, and Islamic SHS at 14. After Round Three, Juaben had extended their lead with 33 points, with Yaa Asantewaa just behind on 31.

But the tide turned dramatically in the final round. Yaa Asantewaa surged ahead to finish the contest with 40 points, overtaking Juaben SHS, who remained at 33. Islamic SHS and Fomena T.I. AMASS ended with 27 and 25 points respectively.

The win marks a return for Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS, who missed qualification for the national competition in 2024. Their triumph ends that dry spell and reaffirms their place among Ashanti’s strongest contenders for the 2025 NSMQ title.

Juaben SHS, despite a strong showing and leading most of the way, will miss out on national qualification.
