Supporters of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) were asked to leave the quiz hall during Contest 8 of the Ashanti Regional qualifiers after failing to comply with instructions from the quiz mistress.
The incident occurred during the speed race in Round Two of Contest 8, where the quiz mistress had earlier cautioned supporters not to celebrate or cheer when a team gets an answer right in that round.
Despite the warning, the OKESS supporters erupted in celebration after their team scored a series of points in quick succession, disrupting the flow of the contest.
Officials at the venue swiftly asked the supporters to leave the quiz hall, a decision aimed at maintaining fairness and decorum in the high-stakes academic competition.
At the time of the incident, OKESS was already leading narrowly after Round One but had begun to build a commanding lead in Round Two’s speed race segment, further exciting their supporters.
Contest 8 was originally scheduled to feature four schools—Osei Kyeretwie SHS, Jachie Pramso SHS, Wesley SHS (Konongo), and Parkoso SHS. However, Parkoso SHS pulled out earlier in the day, citing lack of awareness of their contest date.
