There was wild jubilation at Abetifi Presbyterian Senior High School (APSEC) after their thrilling victory over Wesley Girls’ High School in the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
Students poured onto the school compound in celebration while chanting victory song and dancing after their team secured a quarterfinal slot in dramatic fashion.
The scenes of excitement was in disbelief that an underdog has pulled off what many have called one of the tournament’s biggest comebacks.

The contest was against Kumasi Secondary Technical School and Wesley Girls’, who had were acing with an 11-point lead throughout the first three rounds.
However, in the final two rounds; the speed and puzzle round, Abetifi Presby, staged an incredible turnaround and won the competition with an impressive 5 points.
The end of the contest saw the Cape Coast giants with 54 points, against Wesley Girls’ 49 as well as Kumasi Secondary Technical School with 41.
The win not only earned Abetifi Presby a spot in the NSMQ 2025 quarterfinals but also secured them a seeded place for quarter finals competition.
Back on campus, excitement reached fever pitch as videos shared online showed students celebrating late into the evening.
The students sang praises of the team’s star contestants; Gilbert, Abdul Gafaru, and Ishmael, whose teamwork and composure delivered the victory.
Abetifi Presby’s remarkable win has since sparked reactions across social media, with fans and alumni flooding timelines with messages of pride and congratulations.
