The National Roads Safety Authority (NRSA) in the Ahafo Region, in collaboration with the Kenyasi No. 2 Youth Association, has launched a road safety sensitisation program targeting commercial motorbike (okada) and tricycle (pragia) riders in Kenyasi.

The initiative aims to tackle the rising number of accidents in the community.

Speaking to Adom News, Erasmus Tetteh, Assistant Planning Manager of NRSA, expressed concern over the increasing incidents involving okadas and pragias, which have led to fatalities and serious injuries among innocent bystanders.

He emphasised the urgent need to educate riders on safety protocols to reduce such accidents.

Tetteh noted that Kenyasi is among the areas in the Ahafo Region with the highest rates of okada and pragia-related accidents, attributing the trend to reckless riding and non-compliance with traffic regulations. The high prevalence of motorbikes and tricycles, partly driven by nearby mining activities, makes intensified road safety education crucial for the area, which has seen growing fear and concern among residents.

After the sensitisation session, riders who participated told Adom News that the program was useful, providing valuable insights on safe riding practices and strategies to prevent future accidents.
