NPP race: Your time will come; it’s Bawumia’s time – Hassan Tampuli to his ‘friend’ Bryan Acheampong

Deputy Ranking Member of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Alhassan Tampuli, has urged his “friend” and colleague, Bryan Acheampong, to exercise patience in his presidential ambitions, stressing that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is currently best served under the leadership of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, August 30, the Gushegu MP acknowledged Mr. Acheampong as a strong candidate with impressive credentials but maintained that the timing was not favourable for him to lead the party.

“Bryan is a strong candidate; nobody can deny his credentials. But I believe the timing isn’t right for him just yet. Politics is about preparation and context, and it is important to build at the right moment,” Mr. Tampuli stated.

He further stressed that Dr. Bawumia’s track record and deep grassroots engagement place him ahead of all contenders in the flagbearer race.

“Dr. Bawumia has been to every constituency in Ghana for over five years. That experience and connection with the base make him the better person to lead the party now,” he added.

Mr. Tampuli, who described Mr. Acheampong as a friend, assured him that his opportunity to lead the NPP would certainly come in the future. “Your time will come, but for now, it is DMB’s time,” he emphasised.
