NPP race: 15 Eastern Regional MPs endorse Bawumia

Fifteen of the 23 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament in the Eastern Region have pledged their support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as he launches his campaign tour in the region.

The former Vice President, who led the party in the 2024 general election, is seeking re-election as the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2028 polls.

Dr Bawumia was vetted yesterday by the party’s vetting committee, clearing a key hurdle in his bid to lead the NPP again.

Supporters in Parliament described him as the candidate with the vision, experience, and grassroots appeal necessary to strengthen the party’s prospects in 2028.

The Eastern Region is a crucial battleground for internal contests, and the endorsements are expected to boost his campaign. MPs backing him include Sammi Awuku, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Annor Dompreh, Kofi Ahenekorah Marfo, Charles Asuako Owiredu, Kingsley Agyemang, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, Ida Adjoa Asiedu, Kwame Appiah Kodua, Duke Ofori-Atta, Michael Okyere Baafi, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, Kwame Addo Frempong, Alexander Agyare, and Laurette Korkor Asante.

Addressing supporters at the start of his campaign tour, Dr Bawumia urged party faithful to remain united and focused on recapturing power in 2028.

He highlighted his track record in government and his vision for Ghana’s future as key reasons why he is the best choice to lead the NPP into the next election.

“Together, we can build a stronger party and a stronger nation,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the MPs, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Achiase, Kofi Ahenkora Marfo said that Dr. Bawumia is the most marketed candidate and the most experienced among the other contenders, and that puts him in a better position to snatch power from the NDC back to the NPP.

According to him “We are doing so because we are clear in our minds that Dr Bawumia is the best candidate to lead us to victory in the 2028 elections. Having been well marketed and having served as Ghana’s most impactful vice president, he is the best option politically and policy wise to win us the election”

“Secondly, he is the candidate who demonstrates the characteristics that Ghanaians want in their next leader. Humble, effective, and embracing all persons. We need a leader who unites and not one who divides.” He continued

“Finally, after all the propaganda hurled against the NPP in the 2024 elections, it is becoming clear day by day that Bawumia was right in many of the things he proposed. Now is the time that more Ghanaians are warming up to his ideas. Changing him will be setting ourselves back by another 16years.”

“We have committed that we will work hard for him across the region and encourage all party members to be firm in their resolve to support his candidature.” He concluded
