The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to have all its presidential hopefuls endorse a peace pact on Thursday, January 22, as part of efforts to prevent internal rifts and ensure a smooth flagbearer contest.

Isaac Yaw Boamah-Nyarko, MP for Effia and a member of the party’s presidential election committee, said the agreement will bind aspirants to accept the outcome of the process and work together afterward.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Asaase Radio, he disclosed that former party presidents and the National Peace Council will witness the exercise.

“On Thursday, we are going to sign the peace pact. All the aspirants, together with our former presidents and the Peace Council, will sign a peace pact that commits them to the outcome of the election. The peace pact is to make it clear that whether you win or lose, you owe it to the party to pull everybody along,” he said.

Mr. Boamah-Nyarko explained that the move is intended to protect the party from factional disputes and security concerns that could affect the credibility of the election.

He said the Ghana Police Service will be responsible for maintaining order throughout the process and warned that intimidation and disorderly conduct will not be tolerated.

“No machismo, no bodyguardism will be entertained,” he stressed, adding that any attempt to disrupt the election would be firmly dealt with.

The Effia MP also urged aspirants to campaign on competence and vision rather than personal attacks, noting that post-election unity will be crucial for the party’s future.

“This party has survived worse moments,” he said, emphasizing that cohesion after the contest will help rebuild public trust and strengthen the NPP’s chances against the governing NDC in the 2028 elections.
