The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives on Wednesday, August 6, describing the incident as a national tragedy.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said it is “reeling with sorrow and grief,” noting that the loss is not only devastating to the victims’ families but also to the nation as a whole.
“We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. No words can truly capture the anguish of this moment,” the statement read.
The party called for a “thorough, transparent, and swift investigation” into the cause of the crash to ensure such a tragedy does not occur again.
The victims include Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and other public officials and military personnel who were on board the Air Force helicopter that went down in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
The NPP urged Ghanaians to unite in prayer and compassion during this difficult time, describing the deceased as national heroes who worked to build and protect Ghana.
“May the souls of these eight heroes rest in perfect peace until the last day of the Resurrection, when we shall meet again,” the party added.
