Hundreds of New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates on Sunday, January 11, converged in the Karaga Constituency in the Northern Region to welcome Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as he continued his campaign ahead of the party’s internal primaries.
Dr Bawumia, former Vice President and the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, is seeking re-election to lead the party into the 2028 General Elections. His tour of the Northern Regions is aimed at consolidating grassroots support.

The Karaga visit, represented in Parliament by former Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, saw party groups—including Electoral Area Coordinators, polling station executives, and both old and newly elected constituency executives—publicly declare their support for Dr Bawumia’s candidacy.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Amin Adam endorsed Dr Bawumia, describing him as a leader with the competence and credibility to drive the party forward. He stressed that the support from NPP MPs in the area was based on merit, not sentiment.
“We are not supporting Dr Bawumia blindly. We are supporting him based on competence, vision and integrity,” he said.
Dr Bawumia thanked delegates and supporters for the warm reception, reaffirming his commitment to uniting the party and strengthening its democratic values. He emphasized that unity, credibility, and a clear sense of purpose would be critical as the NPP prepares for the 2028 General Elections, urging members to stay focused and committed to the party’s success.
