The recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi has brought relief not only to traders and ordinary citizens but also to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, a Member of Parliament praised the government’s fiscal discipline, attributing the cedi’s stability largely to reduced public expenditure.

According to the Deputy Finance Minister, controlling government spending must remain a top priority for any administration.

“What this government has done, particularly under Dr. Ato Forson, is to significantly reduce expenditure,” he said. “That should be the priority of every government—to spend within its means.”

He explained that the disciplined approach over the past year has yielded tangible economic results, including the recent gains recorded by the cedi.

“That is what they have been able to do in the last one year, and it has stabilised the cedi,” he noted.

The MP said the positive impact is being felt across the country, especially among traders and businesses.

“Every Ghanaian and trader is happy,” he stressed, adding that the business community has welcomed the easing of exchange-rate pressures.

He further described the cedi’s appreciation as a national achievement rather than a partisan one, noting that even members of the opposition are pleased with the development.

“NPP is equally happy with the cedi appreciation,” he stated.

The lawmaker emphasised that sustaining fiscal discipline and controlled spending will be critical to maintaining currency stability and strengthening public confidence in the economy.
