The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared a general amnesty for members who were suspended or had pending disciplinary cases, but ruled that such individuals will not be permitted to contest in any internal elections for the next two years.
The decision was taken by the National Council during an emergency meeting held on July 25, 2025.
In a directive signed by Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey, the party confirmed that all suspensions had been lifted and ongoing disciplinary processes dropped. However, he clarified that members who forfeited their membership must formally reapply to the national secretariat if they wish to return.
Mr. Buttey explained that while reinstated members are welcomed back, their eligibility to contest in internal party elections will remain suspended for a two-year period.
The directive also cautioned party executives at all levels against arbitrary suspensions, insisting that disciplinary matters must strictly adhere to the constitution, due process, and laid-down procedures.
The NPP noted that the measure is aimed at promoting reconciliation, reinforcing solidarity, and ensuring unity as the party prepares for future political engagements.
