Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, has expressed confidence that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will win the party’s upcoming presidential primaries.
He explained in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, that Bawumia is effectively going unopposed in the primaries and that those who supported him in the last elections have not regretted their choice.
Wontumi said party members are united in their support for Dr. Bawumia and believe he will emerge the winner, noting that the NPP is a single party working together.
“I see that Bawumia is going for the primaries unopposed, although we are having elections. Those who voted for him in the last elections have not regretted their choice,” he said.
Wontumi stressed the importance of respectful campaigning, urging party members to avoid insulting or attacking other candidates.
He said all discussions and engagements should be encouraging and focused on the party’s unity.
“The only thing I won’t condone is insulting others. You can campaign for your candidate, but do not attack anyone. All talks should be encouraging, not insulting,” he noted.
He also praised the quality of the candidates contesting the primaries, stating that Dr. Bawumia is the most suitable choice given his experience as former Vice President and as a previous presidential candidate for the party.
Wontumi added that it is his wish for Dr. Bawumia to win both the primaries and the general elections so he can serve as president for all Ghanaians.
“I am happy the NPP has great people contesting, unlike other parties, but Bawumia is the best among them. He has served as Vice President and was our previous candidate. It is better we give him the chance. It is my wish he wins the primaries and the general elections so he can become president for all of us,” he said.
According to a recent poll by Global Info Analytics, Dr. Bawumia leads the NPP presidential primaries with 47% of delegate support.
The poll, published on September 29, 2025, shows him as the clear front-runner, although a significant number of delegates remain undecided, indicating that the race could still change in the coming weeks.
