NPP desperate to avoid defeat in Ablekuma North re-run – Omane Boamah

Ghana’s Defence Minister and outgoing NDC Director of IT and Elections, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of desperately trying to avoid another electoral loss in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

His remarks come in response to the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to hold a re-run in 19 polling stations within the constituency—a development that has reignited political tensions.

In a Facebook post on Friday, July 4, Dr Boamah described the EC’s action as “long overdue” and raised concerns about its impact on Ghana’s democratic credibility. “We’re left questioning what this means for the future of our democracy,” he wrote.

He further claimed, “The NPP is struggling to avoid another defeat,” reflecting the NDC’s growing confidence in reclaiming the seat.

Dr Boamah also reiterated his party’s call for electoral reforms, urging stakeholders to “fix the broken Electoral Commission” and ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.
