NPP condemns alleged threats and attacks on party leaders

General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned alleged threats of death and acts of violence against some of its leaders by National Democratic Congress (NDC) officials.

In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP accused the NDC’s First National Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, and the party’s Abuakwa North Constituency Communication Officer, Alhaji Abdul Wahab Amadu, of threatening Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annor Dompreh.

The party also cited what it described as an “unprovoked physical attack” on its Third National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Osman Masawudu, allegedly carried out by Chief Sofo Azorka and his associates.

The NPP said such conduct undermines Ghana’s democracy and could worsen insecurity, especially in light of the country’s recent decline in the Global Peace Index.

The party has vowed to lodge formal complaints with the Ghana Police Service and called on the Inspector General of Police to immediately arrest and investigate Chief Sofo Azorka, Alhaji Abdul Wahab, and others allegedly involved.

According to the statement, the recklessness of these actions must be properly investigated and punished.
