NPP apologises to Mahama, NDC over affiliated TikTok users’ remarks on helicopter crash

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has apologised to the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President John Dramani Mahama for any offence caused by remarks from individuals affiliated with the party regarding the August 6 helicopter crash.

The apology was delivered during a courtesy visit to the NDC headquarters, where the NPP delegation also formally extended condolences over the tragic incident.

“If anything said from our side was offensive, I sincerely apologise on behalf of the party. Such behaviour is not sanctioned by the NPP,” Mr. Kodua said.

He described the remarks as “unfortunate, condemnable, and not reflective of the party’s values.”

“In moments like these, we must stand in solidarity. The NPP would never wish death on anyone, not even a political opponent. Such statements are harmful to our democracy,” he added.

Mr. Kodua also warned against politicising national tragedies, noting that inflammatory comments had come from both political sides. “Some have accused the NPP of orchestrating these events, while others have suggested they expected more fatalities. These are dangerous sentiments that all responsible citizens should reject,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of social media personalities ‘Fante Comedy’ and ‘Akosua Jollof’ over threats and harmful commentary against President Mahama. The police also confirmed that the arrest of NPP activist ‘Sir Obama Pokuase’ is part of an ongoing operation targeting the illegal possession and public display of high-grade weapons.
