The Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, has called on stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) holds its Regional Delegates Congress in the Northern Region.
Addressing delegates, candidates and agents at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, where the elections are being held, DCOP Lavoe warned that the Police would not tolerate any form of misconduct or violence.
He disclosed that about 300 police personnel had been deployed to provide security and maintain law and order throughout the electoral process.
According to him, the personnel had been tasked to closely monitor the exercise and deal firmly with anyone whose actions could disrupt the peace.
DCOP Lavoe said the decision to deploy a large number of officers was informed by challenges recorded during similar elections in the past.
“In the past, similar elections have been characterised with issues here and there, and it is for that reason that we are here this morning with all the men we have. So far, 300 energetic police officers have been deployed for this exercise, and I am assuring you that we are going to live up to expectation,” he said.
He added that he would personally be present at the venue to ensure orderliness and urged all participants to adhere to the established electoral protocols.
“I will be here myself to ensure there is orderliness, and anybody that would like to take any chances will be dealt with. Let us adhere to all the protocols,” he cautioned.
He further urged delegates, candidates and their supporters to cooperate with the security personnel to ensure the elections are conducted peacefully.
