A heartbreaking appeal for parental responsibility unfolded on Nhyira FM as a young mother accused the father of her child of abandoning their baby after their marriage plans collapsed.

Yambilla Charity, speaking on Nhyira FM’s Obra programme hosted by Ohemaa Benewa, alleged that the man who impregnated her has completely withdrawn from his fatherly duties, leaving her to struggle alone to raise their child.

According to Charity, when she became pregnant, the man initially did what was expected of him by visiting her family to formally seek her hand in marriage.

However, she said her family rejected the proposal, making it clear they were not in support of the union.

“That was when everything changed,” Charity narrated on air. “After my family said no, he stopped caring.”

She revealed that during the pregnancy she fell seriously ill and desperately needed support, but the man failed to provide any form of care—financial, emotional, or medical. The situation, she said, became unbearable.

“I was sick, pregnant, and alone,” she recounted. “I had no choice but to leave his house.”

Charity said she later relocated to Kumasi, where she eventually delivered her baby under difficult conditions. Since leaving the relationship, she claims the man has completely abandoned his responsibilities as a father.

“From the day I left until now, he has not checked on the child even once,” she said. “He has not given anything for the baby’s upkeep.”

Reacting to the issue, host Ohemaa Benewa condemned the alleged abandonment and reminded listeners that marriage rejection does not cancel fatherhood.

“When marriage fails, fatherhood does not fail,” Ohemaa Benewa stated firmly. “A child must never be punished because adults could not agree.”
She added, “Once you are responsible for bringing a child into this world, your duty does not end at rejection. It begins there.”

Panellist Evangelist DeGraft Addae described the situation as morally troubling and warned against the long-term consequences of neglect.

“A man who abandons his child abandons his future,” he cautioned. “You may walk away today, but the pain you plant will grow and confront you tomorrow.”

Gifty Donkor, popularly known as Big Mama, did not mince words as she addressed the accused father directly.

“This is unacceptable,” she said. “You don’t stop being a father because a woman’s family said no to marriage. That child is yours—step up and take responsibility.”

Another panelist, Lady Gold White, emphasized the emotional damage abandonment can cause to a growing child.

“A child needs presence, not excuses,” she noted. “This baby will grow up asking where the father is. Let us not create wounds that will take a lifetime to heal.”

In a final appeal, Charity pleaded with the father of her child to reconsider his actions and play an active role in the child’s life.

Closing the discussion, Ohemaa Benewa left the door open for further engagement and possible reconciliation.

“Our platform is open,” she said. “If the father is listening, come forward. This case is not closed. We are ready to hear both sides, because every child deserves care, dignity, and responsibility from both parents.”

The matter, she stressed, will be followed up as Nhyira FM continues to use Obra as a voice for the vulnerable and a bridge toward peaceful resolution.
