Nkwanta South MP urges contractor to repair collapsed Bontibor Bridge

The Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South, Geoffrey Kini, has called on the contractor responsible for the Bontibor Bridge to urgently return to the site and repair the damaged structure.

The bridge, constructed last year, suffered significant damage following heavy rains, leaving residents cut off from essential services and hindering transportation. The Bontibor Bridge serves as a crucial link for surrounding communities, facilitating the movement of goods.

Awarded in 2016, the bridge has not seen major improvements, and its collapse has disrupted daily life while raising concerns over the safety and accessibility of alternative routes.

During a site visit with Nkwanta South Municipal Chief Executive Joseph Antwi Awal and municipal National Disaster Management Organisation Director Gesuokon Bright, MP Kini expressed disappointment over the shoddy work by the contractor. He stressed that residents of Bontibor, Salifu-Krom, and adjoining communities deserve better and cannot remain isolated due to inaction.

The MP also appealed to the Minister of Roads to release funds to enable the contractor to return promptly and carry out necessary repairs to alleviate the suffering of local residents.

Speaking to Adom News, residents expressed frustration over the prolonged disruption, highlighting the difficulties in accessing markets and healthcare facilities due to the bridge’s condition.
