The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, Joseph Antwi Awal, has assured residents of Ahondwo, Dufrunkpa, Kpeve, and Kakraka of the government’s commitment to improving mobile phone connectivity to enhance communication and economic activities in the area.

According to the MCE, the lack of reliable network coverage has continued to disrupt daily life and local commerce, with residents often forced to stand by roadsides or move to higher ground and other “advantage points” just to access service.

He also noted that poor connectivity poses serious challenges during emergencies, making it difficult for people to contact relatives or seek urgent assistance.

The assurance was given during a community engagement meeting, where the MCE described the network situation as worrying and pledged that the government would take steps to address it and “open up” the affected communities.

The engagement was attended by the Nkwanta South Municipal Coordinating Director, Mahama Musah; the NDC Constituency Chairman, Prosper Akamani; assembly staff; and other party executives.

Beyond mobile connectivity, the MCE outlined other development priorities being pursued by the assembly, including improved access to potable water. He said broken boreholes would be repaired to ensure communities have clean drinking water and that efforts would be made to extend electricity to newly developed areas.

Representing the communities, Peter Friko and others highlighted key challenges, including poor mobile network coverage, water needs, and the renovation of the Ahondwo JHS block, among other social amenities.

Residents appealed to the government to consider their concerns to ensure the communities benefit fairly from national development, emphasizing that the lack of basic services continues to slow progress in the area.
