Nkwanta North Assembly appeals for magistrate court judge appointment

The Presiding Member of the Nkwanta North District Assembly in the Oti Region, Alhassan Abubakar, has called for the urgent appointment of a sitting magistrate in the district.

Speaking to Adom News, he highlighted the challenges faced by law enforcement and the community due to the absence of a dedicated magistrate.

“The lack of a sitting magistrate is severely hindering the judicial process, causing delays in prosecuting cases and creating a backlog of legal matters,” Abubakar said.

He noted that police and other stakeholders are forced to travel long distances to access judicial services in neighbouring districts, consuming valuable time and resources while straining already stretched law enforcement agencies.

Abubakar emphasized that timely access to justice is a fundamental right for all citizens, and the current situation undermines both the efficiency of the justice system and public confidence in law enforcement.

He urged the relevant authorities to prioritise the appointment of a magistrate for Nkwanta North, stressing that a dedicated judge would help reduce case backlogs, improve judicial efficiency, and enhance community safety.
