Nkwanta crisis: Oti MPs call on community to stop violence and seek peace

The Oti Members of Parliament (MPs) Caucus has issued a heartfelt plea to the warring factions in the Nkwanta South Municipality, urging them to lay down their arms and embrace peace.

The appeal comes amid escalating tensions and violence that have severely disrupted the lives of residents, leaving many in fear and uncertainty.

Led by Geoffery Kini, MP for Nkwanta South, alongside Nelson Djabab (Krachi East), John Kwabena Oti Bless (Nkwanta), and Solomon Kuyon (Krachi Nchumuru), the caucus engaged chiefs and community leaders at Bonakye and Nkwanta township.

John Kwabena Oti Bless, caucus chairman, emphasized the urgency of peace: “We understand there are grievances that need to be addressed, but resorting to violence is not the solution. It is only through understanding and compromise that we can achieve lasting peace.”

The MPs stressed that the ongoing conflict is not only tearing apart the social fabric but also hindering development efforts vital for the future of the municipality.

They called on all parties involved to come to the negotiating table and urged community leaders, youth groups, and civil society organizations to actively facilitate dialogue and reconciliation.

Chief Superintendent Michael Asiedu, head of the Nkwanta South Divisional Police Command, also warned, “Security agencies will not hesitate to take action against anyone involved in the violence. We call on all groups to lay down their arms and allow peace to prevail for the sake of development.”

The MPs reaffirmed their commitment to supporting peace initiatives and urged unity as the path forward for lasting progress.
