The Ningo Traditional Council has responded to reports regarding the alleged establishment of an Igbo king within the Old Ningo area.
The Council has dismissed the claims as baseless and unauthorized, stating that no individual has been granted such authority.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Haruna Mubarak, and signed by the Paramount Chief, Nene Osragbo Djangmah XII.
“Our attention has been drawn to recent media publications about the alleged establishment of a kingdom by a self-proclaimed King of the Igbos in Old Ningo within the Ningo Paramountcy,” the statement read in part.
The Council emphasized that the Ningo Paramountcy remains solely under the leadership of HRM Nene Osragbo Djangmah XII and “does not intend to have another ruler domiciled on our land.”
The statement, which followed an emergency Council meeting on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, appealed to the Interior Minister to thoroughly investigate the matter.

The council described the developments as not only misleading but also disrespectful to the customs and governance structures of the Ningo people.
“The five (5) clans who own land along the Tema-Aflao Road in the general Old Ningo area have NOT sold any land to the said Igbo King to develop a Kingdom,” the statement added.
The Council expressed deep concern over the situation, urging calm and cautioning against actions that could fuel division or threaten the peaceful coexistence between indigenous people and settlers.
While reaffirming Ningo’s legacy of welcoming diverse groups, they warned that this goodwill must not be taken for granted or used to weaken traditional leadership and local governance structures.
