The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested nine suspects following a violent attack on police officers at Saawie, a community in the Jirapa Municipality, during which four service weapons were stolen.
The incident occurred on Friday, December 5, 2025, when about 30 youth reportedly confronted officers who had visited the community to conduct enquiries.
The mob assaulted the officers, seized their weapons, and left three personnel injured.
Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, led a reinforcement team to the scene, rescuing the injured officers and retrieving all four stolen guns.
According to the police, efforts are still underway to recover two missing magazines.
Two of the injured officers were treated and discharged, while another who suffered a fractured arm has been referred to the Wa Regional Hospital for further care.
Police say the nine arrested suspects will be put before court as investigations continue. The Command has condemned the attack, describing it as unacceptable and dangerous.
They urged residents of Saawie and nearby communities to support investigators with information to help track down any remaining suspects and recover outstanding items.
