Nhyira Fm’s Obra Show resolves child custody dispute after shifting narratives

What began as an emotional plea from a distressed mother took an unexpected turn on Nhyira FM’s Obra Show, as new revelations shifted the narrative in a heated child custody dispute.

Stella Dufie, a heartbroken mother, had come on air accusing her ex-boyfriend, Kwadwo Afrifa, of attempting to take their 16-year-old son abroad without her consent.

According to her, the man abandoned her during her pregnancy and only stepped into the child’s life when the boy was three years old.

“I carried him in pain, raised him in hardship, and now they want to erase me from his life completely,” she said tearfully on the show.

Stella claimed she was left alone to face the challenges of pregnancy and even considered abortion due to the lack of support from the child’s father.

Years later, when she fell ill, she handed the child over to Kwadwo Afrifa temporarily — a decision she now regrets, as she alleges, he never returned the boy.

However, the emotional story took a dramatic twist when Kwadwo Afrifa was called live on the show to respond. In his revelation, he stated that he initially distanced himself because Stella had written another man’s name as the father on the child’s birth documents.

“I only stepped in when she finally brought the child to me at age three,” Afrifa disclosed. “Since then, I have taken full responsibility — raising the child, paying his fees, and even preparing to secure him a future abroad.”

The panel of experts and commentators on the Obra Show had mixed reactions.

Host, Ohemaa Benewaa, after probing both parties, acknowledged Stella’s pain as a mother but criticized her initial dishonesty.

“As a mother, you deserve to see your child,” she said firmly. “But you must admit that what you did was wrong. You owe this man an apology — not only for the past but also gratitude for taking care of the boy all these years.”
Lady Gold White, a regular panelist, questioned Stella’s sudden urgency. “Why now? Is it because you’ve heard the boy is soon traveling abroad?” she asked, reflecting the thoughts of many listeners.

Evangelist Degraft Addae added his voice, praising the father’s sense of responsibility. “The man has made the brotherhood proud. Despite the circumstances, he didn’t reject the child. That speaks volumes.”

Gifty Donkor, popularly known as Big Mama, took a conciliatory tone. “We will help the woman apologize to the man and his family. Every child deserves to know both parents, and the woman deserves another chance — but with humility.”

The Obra Show, once again, served as a platform for truth, healing, and social accountability. The program continues to travel to communities across Ghana, offering real-life conflict resolution and support for the vulnerable.

As for Stella and Kwadwo Afrifa, the journey to reconciliation may have just begun — but thanks to the intervention of Obra, there is now hope for unity, truth, and a better future for their son.
