Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has praised Manchester City’s capture of Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo, describing him as a “very, very good player” ahead of the two sides’ Carabao Cup semi-final clash.

Semenyo completed a £64 million move from AFC Bournemouth to Pep Guardiola’s side, signing a five-and-a-half-year deal. The 25-year-old made an immediate impact at the Etihad Stadium, scoring a goal and providing an assist on his debut as City thrashed Exeter City 10-1 in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, earning Man of the Match honours.

Speaking to the media on Monday ahead of Tuesday night’s encounter at St James’ Park, Howe expressed admiration for the Black Stars attacker.

“Antoine’s had an incredible season. I’m a big admirer of his, and he scored on his debut, so fair play to him. I think Man City have signed a very, very good player,” Howe said, according to ESPN.

Semenyo, who has now scored 11 goals in all competitions this season, is available to face Newcastle following a recent rule change.
