Newborn baby found abandoned in refuse container at Damongo

A day-old baby has been found abandoned in a refuse container at Hagaline, a suburb of Damongo in the Savannah Region.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when a resident, who had gone to dispose of rubbish, heard a baby crying.

She quickly alerted sanitation workers nearby, who rushed to the container and discovered a sack containing the newborn, wrapped with its placenta.

The baby was taken to the Damongo Clinic, where health officials confirmed he was in stable condition.

He has since been transferred to St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital and placed in an incubator for further care.

Meanwhile, angry youth in the community have begun an informal search for the person behind the act, describing it as shocking and inhumane.
