A decade after the tragic June 3rd Circle disaster, the story of one of its survivors, Solomon Akurugu, has moved Ghanaians once again, this time not with tears of grief, but with a spark of hope.
On May 29, 2025, blogger and humanitarian Kobby Kyei shared Solomon’s emotional journey online, painting a vivid picture of a life still marked by visible scars and silent struggles.
Ten years after surviving one of Ghana’s darkest days, Solomon continues to live with the pain and abandonment that followed the disaster.
In response to the touching story, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Mr. Eric Adjei, invited Solomon and Kobby Kyei to his office for a solidarity visit.
There, Mr. Adjei made a personal donation and provided Solomon with tools and funding to help rebuild his life.
His gesture included start-up equipment for tiling, offering Solomon the means to acquire a skill and pursue sustainable income.
He also covered rent for new accommodation, giving Solomon a safe place to live, and provided a mobile phone to keep him connected as he begins this new chapter.
To Solomon, his strength and resilience continue to inspire. To Kobby Kyei, whose platform amplified a forgotten voice, Ghana is grateful. And to leaders like Mr. Adjei, this is what it truly means to lead with heart.
The act of generosity is expected to spark a wider call to notice the lives still shadowed by the past, and to be the difference they need today.
