Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has insisted that he will not leave the New Patriotic Party (NPP), despite reports that the party has begun steps to expel him over his public criticisms.
Asked whether he would respond to the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said he would not even attend if invited.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, he described the current NEC as “fake” and said the party has been taken over by people who do not have its best interests at heart.
“What I am saying is that the party we have now, the people there are not good,” he said. “Everyone should quit and allow the young ones, who have the party at heart, to take over. NPP is not what it used to be, and they all know it.
“We should say it as it is and not beat about the bush because the crop of people we have now have destroyed the party.”
His comments come amid reports that the NPP has initiated steps to expel him following his statements on the party’s internal practices and direction.
Earlier, on January 12, 2026, during an interview on Accra-based Channel One TV, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng referred to the NPP as a “fake party” and said he no longer considers himself a member. He also alleged that the party’s 2023 presidential primary was manipulated in favour of then Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In response, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Koduah described Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s comments as “highly reprehensible” and contrary to the party’s values, integrity, and unity.
“The NPP strongly rejects the description of the party as ‘fake’ and dismisses the claims of rigging as unsubstantiated,” the statement added.
