NDP urges NDC to withdraw from Akwatia by-election

The National Democratic Party (NDP) has appealed to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to withdraw its candidate from the upcoming Akwatia parliamentary by-election.

In a letter dated August 18, 2025, and signed by NDP founder, Owusu-Cobbiah Richard, the party argued that a direct contest between the NDP and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) would improve its chances of victory.

“We respectfully request that you consider withdrawing your parliamentary candidate for the Akwatia by-election. A direct contest between NDP and NPP could enhance our chances of winning,” the letter read.

The NDP believes such a decision by the NDC would create a more competitive environment and potentially strengthen its position in Ghana’s political landscape.
